REBA’s travels
During our 12-year ownership, we have traveled many places. We started in Ensenada, MX, after taking offshore delivery. Sailing back to the Bay Area, we prepared REBA for offshore cruising. That fall we sailed south with the Baja Ha-Ha to La Paz for the winter. This was our first true Mexican sailing experience, and it was great. The Baja coast is spectacular, the water clear and warm, and the cruisers we met were lots of fun.
Finding more needs, we sailed back to San Francisco for a complete rebuild of the galley and refrigeration, plus new rigging. Now we had a full-on cruising boat in great condition, so the two of us sailed straight on to Puerto Vallarta, with only a couple of brief stops. We now knew REBA well and she performed wonderfully for us. We began planning for the South Pacific.
For the next year and a half we were in Puerto Vallarta and along the ‘Mexican Riviera’ enjoying coastal sailing, meeting many cruisers and doing our preparations.
With two others as crew, we sailed out on the 23-day, 3000 mi voyage to the Marquesas, or the ‘Puddle-Jump’ as it is known. How exciting to find a tiny speck of land after sailing in such a vast ocean! Seasoning over in Raiatea, REBA spent a year among the various Fr. Polynesian islands.
Next season REBA took us through the Cook Islands, an amazing and deserted tropical place called Beveridge Reef, to Niue, Northern Tonga and through Fiji, where we seasoned over at Vuda Point Marina. That was a spectacular season—lots of water, but also many different Pacific cultures and interesting, friendly natives.
The following season was even more fascinating. We sailed among the Vanuatu (formerly New Hebrides) Islands, traveling the voyages of Captain Cook, seeing active volcanoes, meeting natives only wearing grass skirts and finding many WWII remains. Then on to New Caledonia and New Zealand, our third season-over and a major refit for REBA. After another loop through Fiji, New Caledonia’s Isle of Pines, Norfolk Island, our 4th season-over was in New Zealand. REBA returned to Ensenada via Dockwise. We sailed straight on to Puerto Vallarta. After several years in sunny Mexico, REBA has recently returned to San Diego
