REBA’s name

What’s in a name? It’s interesting.

Quite long after re-documenting REBA, we found she was named by the first owner, but not for Reba McIntyre. So we kept the short and easily-understood name.

Only while sailing the Pacific did REBA lead us to learn the true meaning of her name.

In Fiji unwritten consonants are pronounced into their words. For example the large airport in Fiji  is at Nadi, which is pronounced ‘Nandi’. The Vuda Point Marina is pronounced ‘Vunda’.

When Fijiians saw REBA, they said, ‘REMBA’ !

When we asked what that meant to them, they said it means …

To jump out from the ordinary and go your own way.

How could she possibly have a better name?
